Morphological Post-Processing

After binarization, morphological operations clean up the mask:

  • Opening: removes small foreground fragments (noise).

  • Closing: fills small holes in particles.

  • Fill holes: fills enclosed background regions.

  • Remove small objects: discards connected components below a minimum area threshold.
